Nina - Founder and Teacher

I earned my Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness in 2009 & 2010, and then qualified RYT200, yoga teacher, in 2015. I hold qualifications in Yin yoga and I'm an aqua exercise specialist too. I'm Yoga For All qualified since 2016.

I have always had a fat body and have struggled with body image, and I have been managing chronic pain since 2007. Working and practicing in the fitness and yoga industries in a body that doesn't fit the mould has taught me so much about moving for joy. I feel so privileged to be able to share the knowledge I have gained from all of my teachers and my personal practice with you.

"I feel so lucky that I can do Nina’s classes because she is such a good yoga teacher. Her classes are accessible, supportive and always a challenge. She has so much knowledge about all eight limbs which is impressive and something she weaves into all classes. I’ve never really felt as seen and as safe as I do in her class. It’s really such a gift to be able to practice with Nina."

Maya, NSW.

"I came to Nina a total novice, looking only for gentle exercise to increase flexibility, and she showed me that yoga could be so much more! Her classes are now blocked into my schedule at several points in my week - I look forward to them all day and I’m still surprised by how amazing I feel afterwards. In particular, Nina’s advice on how to modify poses for accessibility is thoughtful and practical. With her help, I’ve developed a practice that works with and for my plus-size body, not against it." Heather, NSW.

"I’ve been attending Nina’s yoga classes in person and online for over three years and I have always felt welcomed and supported to find the yoga that works for my body. Nina is warm and kind and makes sure everyone can enjoy a safe environment when practising." Amy, Footscray Vic.

"Plus Yoga recommendation, October 2021

Having discovered Nina’s Plus Yoga community earlier in 2021, has enriched my weekends and helped me better cope with stressors, particularly in the recent ongoing Melbourne lockdowns, by supporting me to build a regular and consistent yoga practice.
This has been crucial for me in maintaining positive mental & physical health during what has been an extremely stressful and turbulent time globally.

Nina is an amazingly intuitive, expert yoga and meditation teacher, who brings a wealth of deep knowledge, skill, and empathy to the yoga mat in each and every class she offers.

I receive so much holistic nourishment from Nina’s classes, because she teaches from the heart and in doing so, has a magical way of connecting the physical asana beautifully with detailed guidance of how best to set it up for your individual body and practice- this is no small feat and Nina’s gifted way of adding this subtle but significant nuance, takes the yoga experience to a deeper level.
Her specialty is tying in an enlightening explanation of the health, well-being  and spiritual benefits that come from each practice in a gentle and sensitive way, that is inclusive and genuinely caring.  I particularly love the rich traditional aspects that Nina brings to her classes which include Sanskrit references, chanting Om and some of the history of each asana.
‘Namaste’ and then some!"

Louise Capicchiano,
Smiths Gully Vic

"I discovered Nina's yoga classes during the lockdowns of 2021 and they have quickly become an essential component of my home practice. She creates a friendly, welcoming environment and her generosity and warmth radiates through the screen, which makes you feel you're practising in the same room. Each class is different, but always calming and grounding. Nina provides multiple options for different asanas to make them as accessible as possible for all bodies. I can't recommend her highly enough." Rachel, Vic.

"I've been attending Plus Yoga for the past few months and recently began morning meditations with Nina. I find every class is enjoyable and rewarding. Nina is very welcoming and accommodating to all abilities and Bodies. She is particularly good at explaining some of the terminology and adapting classes for everyone's needs who attend her sessions. Looking forward to many more classes in the future." Felissa, Brooklyn,Vic.

"I can't recommend Plus Yoga with Nina highly enough. In her class you'll find a judgement free, safe space for all bodies, a space where no matter your size, appearance or ability your body is not only welcomed but honoured. I've been doing classes with Nina for about 5 years now and it's the thing that keeps my chronically ill body mobile. Plus the fun, laughs, and complete acceptance never fail to lift my spirit." Tiff D.

"Taking yoga classes with Nina has eliminated a lot of the aches and pains I was feeling in my body. I feel stronger in lots of ways. I look forward to each class. There is a lot of variety and a good mix of things I can do easily and things that are harder for me." Debbie Ann.

'I love plus yoga. I often attend 2-3 classes a week. It keeps me grounded and stretches out my body from sitting all day at my desk job, along with building strength and increasing flexibility. Our lovely teacher Nina has created such a warm and welcoming space, it's incredibly inclusive and there are always multiple ways to do a pose! Nina has created such a great little community where everyone feels amazing in the bodies they have! Plus we always have a laugh and a chat. Or covid permitting, a coffee after class." Kim, Vic.

"As a larger woman with chronic health conditions, I have struggled to practice yoga for years. Nina at Plus Yoga has helped make yoga accessible to me again. From watching her videos on my own schedule to adapting poses using a chair or props, I feel like I have regained control over what I can do with my body. Thank you, Nina, for bringing me so much joy through your practice."
Jennifer - Greenvale, VIC
